Money 101: Get personal with your finances.

Find money for school!
Good grades can mean cheaper tuition, lower insurance premiums and cheaper games!

Although the prospect of a bright future and the thirst for knowledge should be enough, when it comes to good grades, it’s nice to be rewarded for a job well done. Besides a fruitful life, hitting the books can also mean great discounts on the essentials needed to survive at school—like video games!

Drive away with serious savings
Most auto insurance companies such as Allstate offer a “good student discount” of at least 10 to 15 percent on car insurance premiums for simply a GPA of 3.0 or higher. However, keep in mind that one speeding ticket can erase a semester’s worth of hard work, so take it slow!

Be a scholar and get some dollars
Many colleges and universities offer merit-based scholarships for their students. Check with your financial aid office to see if your impressive grades might translate into serious aid. Check out a past Money 101 article on Scholarships.

Rest easy with cheaper rent
Apartment complexes in college towns are known for offering students discounted rent if they maintain the required GPA (usually 3.0). Ask your housing office or landlord about possible rental rewards for all your scholarly efforts.

Donations for hard work
This semester, have friends and family pledge to support those long hours in the library. GradeFund helps college students get rewarded for their academic achievement. Students simply invite their friends and family to sponsor them and those sponsors choose the grade levels and sponsorship amounts for each grade (as low as $5). Participating students then upload their transcripts at the end of each term and GradeFund then collects funds from the sponsors.

Games for grades
Play ‘N Trade offers a “Games for Grades” program. Students receive a 10 percent discount on any used video game for each "A" on their report card. Check with a store near you to make sure they participate in this program and let your good grades take you to the next level.

So no matter what your motivation to study hard is, why not start today? It not only makes sense for your future, it can make school a lot more affordable and provide hours of gaming fun!
