Berkeley College Taps Higher One to Offer OneDisburse® Refund ManagmentSM to Students at 7 Campus Locations


Berkeley College is First Higher One Client in New Jersey

New Haven, CT – July 12, 2007 - Higher One, a technology-driven, financial services company serving higher education, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Berkeley College to implement the company's OneDisburse Refund Management in an effort to further increase the efficiency of the College's refund disbursal process.

Berkeley College, a college of about 5,500 students, was looking for a way to offer a better level of customer service to its ever expanding student population. With so many institutions of higher learning in the New York and New Jersey area, schools search for ways to continue to attract students to their campuses.

Higher One's OneDisburse Refund Management is an innovative way to for Berkeley to streamline the school's refund distribution process while at the same time delivering to the student body a higher level of customer service. As part of Refund Management, Higher One is responsible for making the payments, providing customer service, and performing any exception handling procedures.

"We expect that Higher One's OneDisburse Refund Management will be a reliable, convenient and student-focused service for the management of refund disbursements to our student body," explained Lee Miara, Senior VP, Finance and Student Support Services.

As Berkeley has 7 campus locations in New York and New Jersey as well as distance learning programs, it is vitally important that the College partner with a company that has the capability to reach out to each campus and work with them to inform the student body about the services. Berkeley has multiple bursar operations and a high volume of refund transactions.

With a client list comprised of many multi-campus clients, including schools like Troy University, Pace University, and Webster College, Higher One has shown the ability to inform the student population and effectively manage the refund disbursement process at multiple campus locations.

OneDisburse Refund Management will enable Berkeley to reduce the amount of paper checks issued to the student body by offering students a choice of three different methods of receiving refunds from the College: direct deposit into a free, FDIC-insured checking account called the OneAccount, an ACH into the student's current bank account, or a paper check. With two electronic methods of receiving refunds from the College, Higher One's current clients have seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of paper checks issued to students.

Berkeley College is scheduled to begin issuing their first refunds through Higher One with the start of the fall semester of this year.
