How It Works

The Higher One program consists of a simple one-way flat file feed from your Student Information System to our server. The information is passed securely via SSH in order to maintain the integrity of student information. Higher One will notify you each time a file is picked up and processed, eliminating the guesswork.

Two types of files are uploaded to the Higher One server via Secure Shell:

  • Card files consisting of demographic information needed to produce a card for a student. Below you will find an example.

Implementation

The implementation, or “launch” as we prefer to call it, will require minimal IT involvement—only approximately 20 hours  from IT resources for the whole launch. The launch is fast-paced and lasts for just 8-12 weeks. Launch revolves around five major deliverables to test the program and prepare for the initial roll out to the campus community:

  1. Test card file
  2. Refund test file #1
  3. Initial card file (Pre-determined student population to be carded)
  4. Refund test file #2
  5. Daily card file (New Students)

No Installations!

Keep in mind, there is no hardware or software to install, and Higher One has integrated with many student and transaction information systems. Over the years, we have collected scripts written within various ERP systems and will provide references from partner schools to help point you in the right direction.
