Higher One employees lift spirits in their communities this holiday season
New Haven, CT and Oakland, CA – December 21, 2010 – Higher One, Inc. (“Higher One” ), a technology and financial services company focused on higher education, worked with local agencies in New Haven and Oakland offices to adopt families in need this holiday season.
Both the New Haven and Oakland branches of Higher One CARES, the community outreach group at Higher One, have adopted families in their communities. Oakland worked with Saint Vincent’s Day Home and New Haven worked with the Coordinating Council of Children in Crisis to raise money for gifts and purchase presents for families in need.
Employees divided into teams and collectively gathered gifts for members of fifteen families. This is the second year that the New Haven office has contributed to Coordinating Council of Children in Crisis and they doubled the number of families for which the employees were able to provide gifts. Higher One employees benefit from the holiday spirit that collecting, selecting, and wrapping these gifts provides them.
“It was truly amazing to witness the outpouring of support from our employees”, said Matt Desfosses, Director of Business Intelligence and Chair of Higher One CARES. “Adopting families inspired true holiday spirit from folks here at Higher One.”
Higher One CARES was formed by employees at Higher One to help identify opportunities for community involvement and engagement. Though CARES supports a variety of local not-for-profits, in both New Haven and Oakland communities, its mission is focused on education. Before Higher One, our students only had one way to get their refunds, and that was by paper check. With Higher One processing refunds for us, it has allowed us to provide more options for our students without having to enter and store student banking information. We also no longer have to handle sorting, stuffing and mailing thousands of checks.University of West Florida
